Indonesia Sets 2026 Food Import Quotas

(MENAFN) The Indonesian government has announced a total import quota of 4.8 million tons for key food commodities in 2026, the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs confirmed Tuesday.

The quotas cover beef, salt, and sugar, designed to balance industrial requirements while ensuring national food supply stability. Under the new policy, imports of industrial beef have been approved at 17,000 tons — a sharp reduction from the earlier proposal of 297,000 tons.

For industrial purposes, salt imports for the chlor-alkali sector are set at 1.18 million tons, while raw sugar imports will reach 3.12 million tons. Additionally, 508,360 tons of sugar have been allocated under the Import Facility for Export Purposes program.

The government has also limited fishery product imports to 52,801 tons, while emphasizing that consumer sugar imports will not be permitted.
