Mission43 Invites Idaho Community to Mark the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 at Miles of Remembrance

Annual 5K will also recognize Mission43’s 10th anniversary and America’s 250th year through an evening of remembrance, reflection and connection

BOISE, ID, UNITED STATES, August 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Mission43 invites the Idaho community to come together on Friday, September 11, for the annual 9/11 Miles of Remembrance Run, an inclusive 5K and community gathering at Ann Morrison Park honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the generations shaped by the Global War on Terror.

This year’s event carries added significance as the nation observes the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Mission43 celebrates 10 years of serving Idaho’s military-connected community, and the United States commemorates its 250th anniversary. Together, these milestones offer an opportunity to reflect on the enduring values of service, sacrifice, courage and community that have shaped the nation and continue to connect generations of Americans.

“This year’s Miles of Remembrance carries special significance as we mark 25 years since September 11, celebrate 10 years of Mission43, and reflect on 250 years of our nation,” said Dan McGurkin, director of Mission43. “Together, we honor those lost, recognize the generations shaped by the Global War on Terror, and ensure their service, sacrifice, and stories are never forgotten.”

Each year, Mission43 hosts 9/11 Miles of Remembrance to honor and remember the lives lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and to recognize the generations of military members, veterans and families shaped by the Global War on Terror.

Participants of all ages and physical abilities are invited to run, walk or handcycle the 5K route along the Boise River Greenbelt. The event will begin with an opening remembrance ceremony at Ann Morrison Park, followed by the 5K and an evening community gathering featuring food, refreshments, live music and activities for all ages.

New this year, Mission43 will introduce a Memory Wall, where participants can share personal memories, reflections and messages honoring those lost on September 11, those who answered the call to serve and the military-connected families who supported them.
The Memory Wall will serve as a collective expression of how September 11 is remembered across generations. Participants may contribute a memory at the event, whether they are honoring a loved one, recalling where they were on September 11, recognizing someone who served in the years that followed or sharing what service and remembrance mean to them today.

The event also comes during Mission43’s 10th anniversary year. Since its founding in 2016, Mission43 has grown from approximately 200 members to a statewide community of more than 11,000 military members, veterans and spouses. Through education, employment, outdoor recreation, health and community programming, Mission43 helps its members build meaningful and connected lives in Idaho after military service.

As the United States commemorates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the 9/11 Miles of Remembrance will provide a local opportunity to reflect on the responsibility that accompanies the nation’s enduring ideals. The event will recognize those who have protected those ideals, the families who have served alongside them and the strength found when communities come together with purpose.

Whether participating in memory of those lost on September 11, in honor of those who served in the years that followed or in support of Idaho’s military-connected community, all are welcome to take part.
