North West Agriculture host World Food Day Commemoration, 16 Oct
The National Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), invite members of the media to attend and cover the 2026 World Food Day Commemoration to be held in Tosca Village, Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality, on 16 October 2026.
The Minister of Agriculture, Willie Aucamp and the North West Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, will lead proceedings at the World Food Day Commemoration.
This year's commemoration is held under the theme: "Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow." The event will bring together government leaders, farmers, community members, development partners and other stakeholders to reflect on the importance of food security and the role that innovation can play in improving agricultural production and strengthening food systems.
North West was selected to host this important national event owing to the food security challenges experienced in parts of the province, as highlighted in Food and Nutrition Security Survey Report. The commemoration is expected to showcase practical interventions aimed at increasing food production, supporting vulnerable households and encouraging communities to take part in sustainable agricultural activities with the support of the government and its partners.
Several food security projects will be launched during the event as part of the ongoing efforts to improve access to food, strengthen livelihoods and contribute towards the eradication of hunger.
