Warrior Food Pantry strengthens community support at Camp Humphreys

CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea — What began as a modest storage closet inside the Warrior Chapel has grown into a vital resource for Soldiers and families stationed overseas. On Oct. 30, 2026, the Warrior Food Pantry celebrated its grand reopening and recognition as a nonprofit organization, marking a new chapter in its mission to support the military community.

Established in November 2022 to help ease the financial and logistical burdens of an overseas assignment, the Warrior Food Pantry has provided food, diapers, and personal hygiene products to more than 880 families and 3,700 individuals.

In the spring of 2024, the USAG Humphreys Directorate of Public Works collaborated with 2nd Infantry Division / ROK-U.S. Combined Division Soldiers to transform a former mailroom into a 1,160-square-foot pantry. Using repurposed building materials like extra floor tiles and leveraging volunteer labor, the team completed the renovation for just over $200.

The pantry’s recognition as a nonprofit organization represents another step toward expanding community partnerships and sustaining its services for military families.

The pantry relies on donations and support from community organizations, 2ID/RUCD Unit Ministry Teams and Camp Humphreys Commissary. During the holiday season, Soldiers and units organize food drives, contributing thousands of nonperishable items to support fellow military families.

"Serving overseas, thousands of miles from home, brings its own set of challenges and problems," Brown said. "We miss birthdays, holidays, and important moments with the people we love. Sometimes life throws things at us that we just weren’t prepared for. That is when we lean on our spouses, our friends, and our neighbors." Brown emphasized that taking care of service members and their families directly underpins operational readiness across the peninsula.

"In the 2ID/RUCD, we spend a lot of time talking about readiness and our ability to 'Fight Tonight,'" Brown said. "But I’ve always believed that taking care of our people is just as important as preparing them for the fight. Because when Soldiers know someone has their back, when Soldiers know their family is cared for, Soldiers and their families can face just about anything."

Under the direction of Pantry Director Cyndi Grothe, the Warrior Food Pantry operates entirely through community and American Red Cross volunteers. It provides nonperishable food, baby supplies, hygiene products and household essentials at no cost.

Services are available to command-sponsored families, active-duty service members, retirees and Department of Defense civilians stationed in Korea, regardless of rank. Eligible households may visit twice a month, with food quantities based on household size.

Located at Building 1009 on Talon Street, the Warrior Food Pantry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for services and donation drop-offs, as well as Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for donations only. Community members interested in volunteering, partnering, or donating can contact the pantry team at warriorfoodpantrykorea@gmail.com.

For Brown, the pantry represents something greater than the food and supplies it provides; it represents a military community committed to looking after its own. "It’s not just about putting food on someone’s table. It’s about making sure a Soldier or a family going through a tough time knows they’re not facing it alone," Brown said. "We’re more than Soldiers, spouses, and neighbors. We’re a family. And family takes care of family."
